The image hasn't come through for me (and no doubt others) because it was

You are supposed to get frequent disk access whenever you use Linux as it
will be flushing data to disk (or swapping). To determine which of those
it is doing type 'free' at the command line. If most of your swap is being
used then you have two choices:
        - get more memory
        - run fewer programs
