On Fri, Sep 21, 2001 at 11:54:47AM +1000, Bill Bennett spake thusly:
=+-> I'm hbaving trouble with my laptop, which is running Mandrake.
=+->
=+-> For some reason, I boot up and the process goes to the cheerful penguin,
=+-> ticking off the tasks. It stops at "Mounting USB files" and refuses to budge.
=+->
=+-> It could be that the hard drive is faulty (this was a suggestion),
=+-> or it could be something else.
=+->
=+-> I've been told that Redhat has a rescue programme on the two CDs, although this
might
=+-> not work for Mandrake.
=+->
=+-> I suggested that simply re-installing Mandrake from the disks (which I have)
might work, but even if this were
=+-> possible, would I not lose the data files (which are important)?
=+->
=+-> Any suggestion would be gratefullt considered.
=+->
=+-> Regards,
=+->
=+-> Bill Bennett.

Well, the Mandrake is 7.2, $20 worth at the local newsagency.
I'm still feeling my way here. The Lilo system is the series of choices under the fat
Penguin, right?
There's also a royal blue screen containing Failsafe: I've tried that---smae result.
Whatever's happening, when the system stops at USB mount, something else happens too,
because the mouse jams.
Technical data: IBM ThinkPad 600e
The Mouse is the one that sits in the middle of the keyboard.
I'll try the suggestion to go to single user, but could someone confirm that the Lilo
is what I think it is, please?
Regards,
Bill Bennett.
