As an entry level qualification for Cisco kit, yes.

Bollocks. If you have _any_ hands on networking experience at all, you cam
buy an $90 book, and sit a $190 exam to get it.

It helps if you have a little experience with Cisco kit, but it's not
really required if you read the book properly.

The CCNP and CCIE require _much_ more hands on experience, and are not for
the faint hearted.

Did you try www.cisco.com? Simply inputting ccna as a search verb will get
you numerous pages, but perhaps the most useful one is

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/serv/mkt/cert/career/ccert_ds.htm

Tells you everything you need to know.

The exams are run by Sylvan Prometric, who also do Novell, Microsoft, and
just about everything else.
