My little brother works at bigpond adsl/cable tech support and says that
this is a known problem. Your best bet is to steer clear of the 144 subnet
completly. We had to write a script that checked to see if we weren't on the
61.x subnet and redialed until we where.
Apparently routing between these networks is buggered somehow. It puzzles me
that its still a problem, but hey Telstra is big slow organisation.
