Actually, initial studies of the security on Optus left a lot to be desired.  There 
were many reports of people stealing the IP address of other users and using this to 
avoid clocking up their own bandwidth usage (and the poor bloke who owned the IP 
address would get slugged with the excessive bandwidth, and probably disconnected).  

Now it appears they are doing their accounting based on MAC address - still not good 
enough since it is very easy to change the MAC address of a cable modem to that of 
another user.

This works providing the other user is not connected.

Having said that, the Optus policy on disconnection is that they have no problem with 
people reconnecting again - they just want you to pay the connection fee again.
