Steve McConnell is a bit anal about the way he works. Steve Macguire is fairly pragmatic. When I was monitoring the newsgroups there was a bit of negative press about some of Steve Maguires book. I like both really. Interesting reading is Jim McCarthy (also M$) which basically says get the hell out of the road of good progammers. One to give to your manager :-) Note that each one had some facinating insites into M$, like 'never fix any bugs in beta releases'.
