I've been happily using ext3 on three machines that all get pretty heavy use for a number of months now and I haven't experienced any problems with it. I was convinced to move to it after talking with the guy who maintains rpmfind.net; he has been using ext3 under 2.2 and 2.4 kernels for over a year on those machines (four mirror sites) with no problems related to the fs. For what it's worth, I use -ac kernels, so I haven't fluffed around with installing any random third-party patches to mainline kernels to get ext3 support.
