Firewire and USB make the forementioned rebooting for hardware changes a thing of the past.
Although video cards etc... Hot pluggable ram would go down very nicely, someone care to invent / implement it on the x86 platform? (Ok sure you could change printers and mice etc before.) This is slug-chat material i think. Unless anyone knows any really neat usb/firewire hardware that works in linux.
