A few people have asked me off list about some DMS's for linux.
I usually go for the PHP/MySQL solutions but others may be more
suited to your needs.  Most Document Management now is under the
buzzword Knowlege Management  Listed in no order at all.....

http://sdms.cafuego.net/                // is a lightweight but effective tool
http://sourceforge.net/projects/wdms/  // still in early devel
http://www.epiware.com/     //this is a bit of overkill and requires liscense
fee (cheap)
http://www.metakm.com/    // untried

just to name a few of the PHP/MySQL solutions, there may be other python
gtk or others
