I installed the software but couldn't tested it, for the lack of having
a terminal server to play with.

Vnc controls the remote desktop, but you view locally, all file are
still stored remotely.

VMware rocks, it is actually a virtual computer on your machine, so you
need hard disk space and ram to dedicate to it, you can set up virtual
networks on the one computer too given enough ram and disk space.
