Most network address starting with 203.x.x.x respond with a 408 error in
apache and
AOLserver, "time out error". There has been only time that a 203.x.x.x got
a response and the IP was 203.43.231.x
the web server address is 203.222.x.x

Log eg.
199.245.228.136 - - [24/Nov/2001:09:57:28 +1100] "GET /graphics/1x1.gif
HTTP/1.1" 200 28590
203.93.67.124 - - [24/Nov/2001:09:57:32 +1100] "-" 408 -
203.237.93.162 - - [24/Nov/2001:09:57:47 +1100] "-" 408 -
18.29.1.50 - - [24/Nov/2001:09:58:11 +1100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 11941

from http://www.apacheweek.com/issues/97-05-30#status
"If a client opens a connection to Apache, but does not send anything before
the server times out the connection, Apache would log a request for "-" with
a 200 status in the access_log. Now fixed to log a 408 (Request Time Out)
instead. "

I have increased the timeouts with no change

why just IPs 203.x.x.x and none of the others?

when "resolve domain" is turned on, in httpd.config none of the 203.x.x.x
No's get resolved

I have increased the timeouts in httpd.config with no change

the firewall is set correctly with nothing
referring to that host or subnet 203.x.x.x
I have checked various files that might affect it, host.deny etc.

SUSE 7.2 d-link dsl-500 adsl router, small net 1 Linux server, 1 win2k box
running DNS as well, but the problem was there before I set that up.

Ive changed NIC's with no change.
haven't changed the hub. only have 1

I don't like the fact that sometimes the IP gets resolved as
x.ads.connexus.net.au
and not the domain I'm authoritive for. but it was getting error before DNS
was setup.

It has never worked to my knowledge.
any ideas, pointers.

thanks
Stuart
