Hello,

I seem to be stuck - as usual, please help :-(

Problem
Name resolution is not occurring. Tried to surf to a web site such as
www.slug.org.au and can not, Netscape advised address can not be found. But
if I obtain the ip address of the web site off another pc 138.25.7.4 then I
can surf to it.

Suspect that my host name is incorrect.
my /etc/hosts file reads

127.0.0.1 firewall localhost.localdomain localhost

I think there should be something else in this file but am not sure what it
should read.
P.S pc name is firewall.

tried to configure network card using network configure under KDE and add a
host name into the hostname field but no success, well the field does not
seem to be populated with the information that I add and save.

currently the nic is set to optain an ip address from a dhcp server but I
have tried this with a static ip and same problem.

the ip routing table reads

Destination Gateway Genmask Flag MSS
Window irtt iface
192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 40
0 0 eth1
127.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 U
40 0 0 lo
0.0.0.0 192.168.0.254 0.0.0.0 U
40 0 0 eth1

Looked at the howto's and the RH CG, GSG, IG, and RG doco's but no success.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

thanks
