$IPC means that there is no smbpasswd account for that user. use

I have added "valid users = mikel" to [mike], "valid users = lindax" to [linda] If I log onto Windows as mike then I get asked for a password to make the connection to \\mol\IPC$. If I give my UNIX password I get entry to my directory now and NOT to lindax or tonyb. But I can see their directory entries in the browse list. Question: Why isn't the user mapping changing that IPC$ to mike? Is that because at this stage I am not yet connected? If another Windows user called 'test' tries to access mol the user is not mapped to a valid UNIX user and they are asked for a password to \\mol\IPC$ (but would be better to not even ask for a password but to say access is denied) > Not sure about the password prompting bit, perhaps if the password is the > same on windows and samba you won't get prompted? Maybe thats so. I have same UNIX & Windows passwords. With the same passwds when I click on mol in Network Neighbourhood I immediately get presented with the users directories ie mike, linda and tony. I dont have to use a passwd to connect to mol. I changed my Windows passwd to something else and then to access mol I have to supply my UNIX passwd. After that it lets me see the users directories. PS. Each Windows dialog box asking for a password offers to [x] save passwd Is there a registry change I can make to set that [x] to []?
