G'day Russell. As Debian and Solaris administrator, Solaris is most
definately worth having a look at, on either IA32 or SPARC hardware for
the following reasons:

- It's a good learning experience
- There are plenty of nice paying jobs for Solaris skills
- You will *really* appreciate Linux's generally usability
- Coming to grips with Solaris will broaden your skill set.
- Looks good on your resume.
- Solaris does many things very differently to Linux and this will cause
you to think more about what you are doing rather than just working from
habit / ritual in well known environment.

Also, with GNOME 1.4 on it, the GUI for Solaris is now quite usable and
useful.

Even though I truly dislike working with Solaris (I've replaced all bar
one Solaris server with Debian/SPARC) all in all, it's most certainly
worth playing with and learning.

The Solaris AnswerBook will be your friend.
