I can't be bothered to find your original posting, Kevin, but I've been
meaning to mention my little project :-)

You can take a peak at http://repose.cx/muse - it's a hacked together MP3
player which I've done in python, and it runs on an old P100 laptop
with a broken screen (swapped it for some debian CDs :-), with
keypay/lcd support.
