Never heard of getmail.
Fetchmail seems to have thought of every possible convoluted combination 
of getting mail from server to workstation (you could if you were sick 
enough put it on the server too and do away with SMTP between the two 
sites).

EG via SSL, SSH, IMAP, limits on type of emails it'll pickup, how often, 
different accounts, splitting up multi-drop mailboxes & the likes.

I had a dodgy internet connection and managed to get it to work around
their limitations. EG I got it to skip all the large messages, pickup 5 at
a time, disconnect, pause & reconnect until I connected via my
pay-by-the-hour telstra dialup account.
