[SLUG] initial slow samba response

Hi slugs,
scratching my head a little on this.
simple setup, win2k talking to mandrake 8.1, same subnet.
initial samba response for a name/password takes about 40 seconds.
after that it is as normal with copying files etc.
any clues as to the really slow response?
