Hello All,
I am having troubles with a tar backup that i created. My system is Red Hat
7.2, kernel version 2.4.3-12. My machine is a samba server, has a DDS4 tape
drive and has a 36gb hard disk. Currently though it has only used 17gb.
The variable TAPEDEV is /dev/tape. The variable ERRFILE is
/var/log/backup/backup-err.log.3.
I am trying to backup everything by dropping into the root directory and
running the tar command below. I have excluded certain directories that were
not necessary and were causing the tar command to fail.
tar -cvf $TAPEDEV --exclude "./proc/*" --exclude
"./var/spool/squid/*" --exclude
"./tmp/*" --ignore-failed-read --totals --verify . 2>>$ERRFILE
If i watch it run manually it works no problems. However i try to read the
tape back or restore i get "unexpected end of file", "tar exitting from
unrecoverable errors".
On closer investigation i find the following error:
/root/scripts/FullBackup.les: line 42: 31663 Broken pipe
tar -cvf $TAPEDEV --exclude "./proc/*" --exclude
"./var/spool/squid/*" --exclude
"./tmp/*" --ignore-failed-read --totals --verify . 2>>$ERRFILE
and the exit code is 141.
I have no idea what the broken pipe error message means. The command seems
to run fine manually. I also cannot find any info on the exit code 141.
Can anyone help me find out what is wrong?
Regards,
Les Stott
