There is no difference apart from the location, between the ./new and ./cur directories, so perhaps just poll the ./new dir and move any files that appear there into the ./cur dir? I kinda remember doing this along time ago.... around 0.30 of courier-imap, and I think something funny then happened with messages read, unread state... might be fixed now.
