Unfortunately, it's not obvious from Lamport's book. Consider the following :---
\documentclass[12pt]{report}
\begin{document}
{\footnotesize The quick brown fox}
and later
{\tiny The quick brown fox}
\end{document}
Could anyone tell me, please, what point sizes will be produced
in these two cases?
