Nick,

Firstly do not allow anonymous connection to FTP
from the internet.
Secondly wuftpd is full of securty flaws. 
Try proftpd if you need an ftp deamon.
Unless you have checked your entire system don't know
what they have dumped on your system.
up until you examine your system closely you can never be certain
what that user did.
for example if you know what ports you usually have
open are then you can run netstat to see if they have
activated a backdoor to your box.
