Jeff is the man (again). I notice on reboot that diald was running, removed that and guess what the whole thing started working. The tulip network driver is very flaky and I think this was more my problem. I am trying to upgrade my kernel but getting strange results. I have just had a clean update of woody so I will make clean and build the new kernel from scratch.
