SuSE are very much a KDE-supporting company, so they don't pay as much
attention to their GNOME stuff as, say, Red Hat (who are VEEERY much a GNOME
supporting company, even though Bero does an fantastic job on KDE), or
Mandrake, who basically support both.
I'd recommend checking out GNOME 1.4.1 - there are lots of updates that
really improve on the initial 1.4 release. Some would recommend Ximian's
GNOME, but contrary to popular belief, it's actually quite out of date. :)
Perhaps some investigation on rpmfind will help you get the updated packages
for SuSE.
