Sluggers,

I've asked this on the LTSP list but no one seems to know so I thougt
I'd ask here as the
sluggers generally come through on these things.

I've got a RH7.2 server with a couple of X-terminals (diskless boot,
linux boxes)
hanging off it. When the X-terminals boot, X comes up fine (grey screen,
"X" cursor) but
the GDM login dialog fails to appear.

If I stop and re-start X on the server (init 3, init 5) then the GDM
logins appear on the
X-terminals. However after I log out on the X-term (or I reboot them)
the GDM login fails
to appear.

The X-terminals have this message repeating every few seconds on their
console

   "client 1 rejected from IP 192.168.9.1 AUTH name: MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1
ID: -1"

(The server is 192.168.9.1)

After a half a dozen re-trys, X aborts and is respawned, but the
messages continue to
appear. init 3 then init 5 on the server then brings the gdm dialog up
on the X-terminals.
(or kdm or xdm)

The server is running X and it is spawned via the inittab entry
  x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon

The gdm.conf file on the server has the network xdmcp enabled I.E

  [xdmcp]
  Enable=true
  HonorIndirect=true
  MaxPending=4
  MaxPendingIndirect=4
  MaxSessions=16
  MaxWait=30
  MaxWaitIndirect=30
  Port=177

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what has gone wrong? This was all
working
fine but obviously something has been trashed involving the XAuthority,
or xauth but
unfortunately I don't understand enough about this aspect of X to know
where to start
looking.

Thanks for any ideas

Pete
