I Can confirm this.  I use a Logitech wireless trackball, and I can 
have the reciever closer to the PC than the recomended 30cm without 
any trouble. BUT, stick a bottle of water or a coffee between the 
units, and it does seem to struggle a bit.  Tracking seems a tad 
strange, and clicks can go 'astray'.  Doesn't seem to get upset by 
the mobile phone though.

Battery life seems acceptable.  1AA seems to last about 2 months 
for one that gets used every weekday, 8.30-5.30.
