With a secondary MX, the mail gets delivered to the secondary if the primary is not available for whatever reason. So, yes, the actual mail goes to the secondary MX server. :) You may have this confused with a secondary DNS server, which contains the records of where the primary MX and any secondary MX's are located. -Frode
