Unfortunately the AusLig CD's are in a proprietary format developed by
an Oz company. Both names escape me at the moment.

Unfortunately, the OZ government is firmly into user pays, where as the
US government saw the benefits of making GIS data freely available years
ago[1]. Guess who sells the most GIS applications? {:-).

If you are developing a "commercial"[2] product, then AusLig might be
approachable for a sample set of data unencrypted.

You could also search the Slug archives as this has been discussed
before.


[1] the rational is that data collect by the US government has already
been paid for by its citizens.
[2] this means a product that would cause people to nee to buy data of
them.
