Hi everybody,

This message is to announce the Secure Sysadmin mailing list at
Wiretapped, which has been set up for people to discuss security issues
that arise in the course of administering, securing and protecting
computer systems and networks. It is expected that the list will cover
both technical and non-technical (eg policy) issues.

The list is available in both an individual message and digest version.

To subscribe to the individual message version, send a blank email to:

To subscribe to the digest version, send a blank email to:

Some notes about this list...
-----------------------------

Because the nature of asking technical questions on a list such as this
often requires you to "open the kimono" and disclose exactly what software
you're running, what version of the software you have, and possibly how
it's configured, the archives of this list might be considered a goldmine
for a hostile party to learn something about your hosts and your network.
This exact method of passive fingerprinting is often discussed at seminars
covering security issues.

To provide an effective countermeasure to the problem, we're encouraging
the users of this list to use an anonymous / pseudononymous remailer any
time they wish to post information or discuss topics without revealing
their identity.

Instructions on how to post anonymously/pseudononymously so are provided
in the email you receive as you subscribe to the list.

Hope to see you on the list, raising the bar of security.

Grant and Keiran
Wiretapped
