Ctr Alt Bkspc does nothing when its hung.
Ctrl Alt F2 Does get a new login prompt
and startx --:1 goes as far as it did before and hangs

>"If it is trying to boot straight into the graphical startup (init 5), but it can't
>get X running
properly, that would explain the server already running on 0.
Try pressing CTRL ALT BKSPC to cancel the X server,
then you should be able to log on from the command prompt
otherwise, CTRL ALT F2 to go to a new login prompt
log in as root
on redhat type setup to try and configure your X server again, and do the test
type startx -- :1

The Ctrl -c does kill the server and gives the prompt back.
It gives this commentry of the proccess.

"^-xinit : Resorce temperarily unavailable (errno 11) Expected Signal 2
Waiting for X server to shutdown.
xinit : X server slow to shutdown, sending kill signal.
Waiting for server to die."
Then the comand prompt appears again

>"Just on the command prompt thing - have you tried hitting Control - C?
Looks like the X server is hanging and startx doesn't get to exit.
It does this for me when I forget to set the display, and ctrl-c is
enough to kill it and give me a prompt back.

There is no response with Ctrl Alt F7 at any time.
I've tried startx --:7 startx --:1 etc,etc with the same outcome

7.
What happens/shows if you hit simultaneously Ctrl-Alt-F7 ?
That should take you to the graphical x display on VT 7

> Could this be a memory problem? I only have 32Meg of Ram.
32Meg will be fine.
