Hi All,

Finally figured out why I was experiencing the login
problem - it was missing 'pam_unix.so' in the /lib/security/
directory. Install.log showed that some 'pam*' rpm had
        "md5 checksum" (??) error ...

Solution: Wiped off even the tiniest spec of dust off the
install CD (there was fingerprints on it !! mine) and tried
installing
again. It worked !! (Another valuable lession learnt -
handle CD's so as not to dirty the recorded surface).

        Thanks all.

Regards,
Rajnish

PS: Mrs was very impressed by KDE. She hasn't quite grasped
the concept of window managers, but she liked the colours.
