Can't help with your DNS but you might want to search the slug archives 
on the mail topic, as I wrote a piece which argues that a secondary MX 
controlled by someone else isn't worth having. Others added their 
opinions for the opposite case. Read the info and make up your own mind.

In summary though my point is simply that if you are off the air with no 
secondary then the mail will simply queue on the senders outgoing smtp 
server. And in my opinion that is a better situation than having it 
queue on the secondary because the sender (via their system admin) can 
find where the mail is at but if it goes to a secondary then they assume 
you have it (which of course, until you system is back on the air) you 
don't.
