Can't help with your DNS but you might want to search the slug archives on the mail topic, as I wrote a piece which argues that a secondary MX controlled by someone else isn't worth having. Others added their opinions for the opposite case. Read the info and make up your own mind. In summary though my point is simply that if you are off the air with no secondary then the mail will simply queue on the senders outgoing smtp server.
