there 4 major DVD players for Linux: mplayer, ogle, xine and videolan. At one time or another I tried them all. I tried versions installed on my system by default, I tried installing RPMs where I could find them, and I tried to compile others. Result? One by one they crashed (some aactually locking up my system) or failed with some frustrating and obscure (for me at least) error*. I yet have to see a DVD playing on my system - I have to believe it *is* possible to get this working, but clearly this is not a good project for a newbie to ease into Linux. Frankly, this whole DVD deal has to rate as one of the most frustrating experiences I've ever had, on any platform... oh, the obligatory disclaimer: YMMV... *case in point: xine as installed by mandrake 8.2 comes up with "there is no available input plugin available to handle 'dvd"//VIDEO_TS.VOB" ... huh? ---------------------------------------------------------------- "I'm out of bed and I'm dressed, what more do you want?" - spotted on a T-shirt ---------------------------------------------------------------- -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ More Info: http://lists.slug.org.au/listinfo/slug
