i hope any windows users out there reading this and contemplating buying a mass of MS licences for a bunch of workstations or servers they are going to configure realises just how much bulls--t MS licenses are...they are just so complicated and so confusing and intimidating and misleading that its just not worth the hassel.
I cant see any way the average Joe off the street could pick up an MS EULA and fully understand it with out having to consult their solicitor for clarity....so not only do you waste money on each license for the crap software, but you should also spend more money on a solicitor to make sure your not signing your soul over to gates. alot of people use windows because its easier....but is it really? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Ken Foskey Sent: Sunday, 21 April 2002 7:54 PM To: slug Subject: Re: [SLUG] [Fwd: [Lias] Latest Microsoft Stupidity] On Sun, 2002-04-21 at 18:45, Jon Biddell wrote: > > The legal position is; If I buy a PC with Windows pre-installed (with > licence, cd, etc), I can give that PC away to whomever I choose WITHOUT > WINDOWS included. As I understand it, the doze license is that magic little hologram. If you have possesion of that you own the license, if you do not then you don't own it and it is a pirate copy and you can be subject to persecution :-}. You can legally give away or sell this license because you have paid for it and it is your license to use the software, the cost may have been in your hardware but you still paid for it. M$ cannot stop you from doing this. The same as the manufacturer can stop you selling the video card out of the computer when you upgrade your video card to a new one. I understand some vendors offer a refund for the license if you use Linux exclusively. KenF PS: Just curious anyone got any doze licenses they are willing to sell.
