I have to say that the spreadsheet in Open Office is less than optimal. I had to use gnumeric to process a spreadsheet I was working on, I could not get it to do what I wanted with the data import. I kind of doubt I will play with the spreadsheet much. I suspect that I will stick with gnumeric for a while, it works. An integrated spreadsheet in an office product is a requirement so it will get a bit of work done on it. The word processor is what has had the major focus and it is getting very robust now. The WP has so much to offer in terms of hair pulling and gnashing of teeth for a developer :-) The Impress (powerpoint/ presentations) product is also getting some airplay in terms of working on powerpoint imports. This is probably one hole in the open source world that needs to be plugged. There is no easy way to give a manager a pretty presentation for his legacy M$ system. I expect a ramp up with the presentations side of OO in the next release (guess work here).
