Hi Ben, Thanks for your help.

I have tried 192.168.100.3 and 192.168.100.10 from the Linux and Windows boxes respectively, and they ping fine. > ping the other card ip over the wire. No, no ping in either direction. > usually cards autodetect which port is active. if you have two > different connectors on the card can you setup 10Base2 to test > as well as 10BaseT. (if this is them) I don't think I can do that. I'm a hobbyist working from home and I don't have another desktop box. My Windows laptop just uses a 10BaseT crossover cable. Can I set up debian to send packets just to the 10BaseT interface? > have you got the setup software to turn on/off the connector > you are using? No, it's a second hand machine and I only know that it's a 3Com 3c900 card because I opened the box to take a look. I do have the manual, but I'm still working on reading it. I read somewhere that there are Linux diagnostic programs for this card on Donald Becker's site, but I'll have to learn how to compile them. Thanks for your help - all suggestions gratefully received. mark __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? LAUNCH - Your Yahoo!
