Yes. This works on both machines. Windows 95 and Linux.

I haven't tried this - I'll try it tonight. I have tried 192.168.100.3
and 192.168.100.10 from the Linux and Windows boxes respectively, and
they ping fine.

I don't think I can do that. I'm a hobbyist working from home and I
don't have another desktop box. My Windows laptop just uses a 10BaseT
crossover cable. Can I set up debian to send packets just to the
10BaseT interface?

No, it's a second hand machine and I only know that it's a 3Com 3c900
card because I opened the box to take a look. I do have the manual, but
I'm still working on reading it. I read somewhere that there are Linux
diagnostic programs for this card on Donald Becker's site, but I'll
have to learn how to compile them.
