Hi all LaTeX/xdvi/metafont/pk gurus.... Just doing the final preps for my talk on Sat morning. I have a problem though with xdvi. Background: The talk is on a Ti Powerbook running MacOSX. I have installed XFree86 4.2 and it runs fine with Blackbox wm. I have teTex and xdvi and vim of course. LaTeX runs fine and xdvi runs fine if you use CMR fonts. But when i use package 'newcent' or 'bookman' latex runs fine but when xdvi gets the focus I get a flurry of font generation with the error message:
The following command for building a font file has failed: mktexpk --mfmode cx --bdpi 300 --mag 'magstep(1) --dpi 360 pncri7t '>&3' There are many of the above messages, one for each size of a font. After answering OK to all the errors xdvi shows that cmr fonts have been substituted. Each time I run latex on docfest.tex xdvi again goes and tries to generate all the pk fonts; as it failed the previous time. Typing the error into google does not show this problem. Over the next few minutes I will try diff search terms but otherwise what might be going wrong here? Clearly something failed to install correctly in the setup. Yes its MacOSX not Linux guys but for a talk on LaTeX a pseudo-BSD will be fine :-) Michael Lake Caver, Linux enthusiast and interested in anything technical.
