The Networks SIG is due to look at Linux again this month. Indeed I have taken the quantum leap into morphing the Networks SIG into The New LINUX SIG.

The New SIG will be run by Edward Howard, at the inaugural meeting he will be showing us how to install Mandrake, famous for being the easiest to install.

The meeting will start with a brief discussion on the differences between the various distributions, Red hat vs. Debian vs. Mandrake et al. This will be followed by an introduction to the most important Linux Software Packages. These are essentially the "applications" either bundled with the distribution or available separately. So they are essentially the filling in the Linux sandwich.

We will then install Madrake to see the previously discussed decision making process in action. Finally to add the package of your choice (well Edwards probably) we will learn how to use RPM to install using the almost standard Linux Package Installer.

How much is it?
This event (and any other Sydney PC Users Group event) is open to anyone. There is a nominal $2 charge towards the room hire, tea, coffee and bikkies.
