some people have responded that redhat uses a special file for specifying
static routes in /etc/sysconfig/static-routes

a quick google for 'static-routes redhat' give this page

perhaps if you let us know which routes you are trying to add we can help
you with the syntax. the important info is:

- network or host the route is for
- which interface it needs to exit or nexthop it needs to traverse
