So they should be, by my reckoning, google saved themselves about $32,000,000 in windows server license fees plus upgrade costs and not including more than 5 CALS per server over using Win2K servers (about $4k a pop retail).
There was also an article recently where a $1Bn retail operation in the US http://eltoday.com/article.php3?ltsn=2002-07-17-004-15-PS reckoned that for every 12 windows server boxen they needed one admin. Doing the maths at say $40K per admin, that means google would have needed 666 staff (interesting number) and a budget of $26Million in salaries per annum. Maybe this is a good festies poster?
