I had this problem with a friends laptop that I'm 99% sure was a Toshiba --
just wouldn't boot from the CD for some reason.

What I ended up doing was loading the linux installer from DOS.  I used
debian but according to
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-7.2-Manual/install-guide/s1-sta
rt-install.html you just create a DOS boot disk that can see your CD drive,
and then put your Redhat disk in and (cddrive):\dosutils\autoboot.bat

This will then start just as if you booted from the cd.
