Hi all,
We had a lot of success using 128/256Mb compact flash cards to 
create fast booting linux servers.  The cards are cheapish (~$1 per 
meg) and can be made to look like a standard IDE hard drive with 
awesome seak performance (the heads dont move far ;-)

I cant recall exactly how fast we got them to boot in the end but it 
was a hell of an improvement over the IDE drives. We used a cut 
back slackware install which even included modules so there would 
have still been a lot of room for improvement.
