I generally don't try to talk tech to execs; it bores and/or scares them and
they just write you off as a nutter.
I talk to them about specific aspects of their business operations that
could be more streamlined, or made more cost effective.
I find out what it is that they do (this in in an industrial engineering
situation), and find out what it is that really annoys them with their
existing information technology and what they need just to survive.
Sometimes OSS loses out because of some crucial business app; sometimes you
win.
But, yes, you gotta talk either in a little group or one-to-one.
Also demos help a lot if you have an intranet site that shows off some
aspect of what you are talking about.
You also need to find out when they are planning to upgrade their systems
anyway and see if you can use that time frame to get something else in.
And above all you have to make sure your solution will interoperate with all
the old stuff that other departments still use.

Regards,

Jill.

jeff its not so much who is doing it. there aren't many schools/tafes moving
outside the comfortable m$ world. you just can't compete with private jets &
junkets that m$ puts on for top edu execs.

its not only about technology to run today's systems efficiently, its about
'mothers milk' for our children & that's why its so important to showcase
options so our young people know there are options!!
