Yes. I use winex, myself, for the extra installshield support, copy protection algorithms and 3D support... although Gus may pipe up at this point and explain how I can do that in the free wine distro... Gus? I play games like Jedi Knight II and Max Payne, and also have recently discovered that winex will work for the electronic software keying in Altera's electronic design packages.
