Not really. What about those anonymous sites, where you'd now have to hand
out an SSH password.

I think the answer is ssh for your personal data (where you have a
username and password), and rsync for everything else. Perhaps even rsync
over ssh for your personal data. Yay rsync.

Lots of the mirror sites already run rsync, because it reduces the load on
their network pipes.
