run xvt or another xterm and run gnome-terminal. I get the following: ken@gandalf:~$ gnome-terminal The program 'gnome-terminal' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was '202'. (Details: serial 416 error_code 202 request_code 155 minor_code 8) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) ken@gandalf:~$ I raised this and it is a known problem with unstable. It has been for a while. I started using multi-gnome-terminal, a little bit sad on the configuration but it keeps all my terminals in tabs which I like. I tried installing gnome2 off experimental and it would not load up yet :-( Surprised that this has not made it into debian proper yet.
