Hello
Wow love the cat Ive always wanted to build a boat and take off for a
few years (with a film camera).I did some sailing in college for my Duke
of Edinborough and I loved it.
I actually use mdk 8.2 on desktops in the office with the usual
complaints, but I couldn't ply the Linux computers out of their hands
now (for updates)if I wanted too.
The real trick with mandrake is learning how to customize it for your
needs( also in my case for the users)and there are heaps of dedicated
people who have ftp sites just for this. Want your Mandrake machine to
look like XP or OSX no worries and installing new software is just a
matter of downloading the rpm package clicking on the rpm icon (entering
your security password) and the installer starts up in a Window with a
simple click on NEXT method, same as in windows.
Some people say "dont make the big jump" Im a bit more of "Do take the
big Jump" I did it and haven't looked back yet. Yes Linux isn't windows
(we pray to the gods that it never shall be) but then again if Linux was
Windows there wouldn't be any adventure in it and whats life without
risk or adventure.
To some degree I say yes keep a Windows partition but this can be a
personal problem as like the dark side in one of those propeller head
movies it sucks you back into using it again crashes and all.
I was worried at first when I swapped to Linux and scared that certain
things weren't there that I was familiar with (they were I just didn't
realize they were yet) ,its bit like when your a kid and you have to go
to a new school everything is weird and all the room numbers are wrong
and the teachers and students are a bit weird then you adapt and find
new friends. One thing you have to remember when you use Linux your not
just installing another OS your joining a community of people who want a
to walk a different path and dont want to be told -
* sorry but you have to open 4 windows to make a simple edit
* sorry you will have to pay us $$$$ if you want to know how to
fix the problem we created
* hah hah yes your idea is great it saves time but sorry we
couldn't be bothered because our Million dollar users dont
complain.
Regards
Richard Neal
PS Sorry for the long post to the converted
