Sorry this reply is so late.
I've got just about the same system as you. Apparently,the
combo of anti-aliased fonts in KDE2 and a GeForce card
doesn't
work too well. It seems to be a fairly documented fact, and
the
only work around is to either turn off anti-aliasing, or
upgrade
to KDE3. Using TrueType fonts may also cause a few
problems.
You may find that grabbing the newest FreeType2 packages
could
help as well.
