Hi again and again,

seeing as you've all been so supportive of Sweep here's a quick update
on new stuff in the last couple of weeks.

New stuff: importing of MP3 and import/export of Speex files
------------------------------------------------------------

        * now you can scrub and mix your MP3 collection

        * Speex (http://www.speex.org/) is a cool new speech codec; it
has recently joined the Xiph.Org Foundation (the people who make and
promote Ogg Vorbis) and has comparable aims, but is targeted at
a different domain. It is designed mainly for Voice over IP use,
and is supported in projects like OpenH323 and GnomeMeeting.

Sweep provides all Speex's encoding options, as you can see here:

New demos page:
---------------

        * There's a bunch of new Ogg, WAV and Speex files which demonstrate
some of what can be done with Sweep:

thanks for all the feedback and feel free to keep hassling me with feature
requests etc., it's all been very useful. I won't make a habit of spamming
SLUG with this news, but the MP3 stuff especially was worth a mention as
many people had asked for it.

Generally, new releases of Sweep are announced on the sweep-announce mailing
list and can be tracked on SourceForge.net and Freshmeat.net.

oh yeah, and Scrubby's going to be at linux.conf.au in Perth in January,
are you? http://linux.conf.au/ :)

cheers,

Conrad.
