Ok, so first you wanna check that it shows up as a USB device. I don't
have any usb devices here to check this with, but I'm pretty sure you'll
see it listed in the "hardware list" part of the "hardware" section in
mandrake control center.

what do they do?

hrmmm. That's a little cryptic. I've not seen printers mentioned in rc
files... I don't actually know anything about these drivers though, so
if you know something that I don't then say so.

I'd suggest that you proceed by shutting down lpd completely, then
restarting cups. So:

    /etc/rc.d/init.d/lpd stop
    /etc/rc.d/init.d/cups restart

(and if cups isn't running, it will be started)

then, load up a web browser and go to "localhost:631". You'll need to
log in as root. Add your printer there. I checked and your printer isn't
listed, but it might be compatible with one of the ones that are there.

There is also a printer config thing in mandrake control center but I
prefer the cups one personally.

It looks like you should just be able to download the drivers from the
webpage though... How do these utilities work? do they have their own
log? I guess it might be helpful to look in /var/log/messages,
/var/log/lpr/* and /var/log/cups/*

Not particularly. It still ships with both cups and lpd.
