Hi All,

This is one I hope the Red Hat wizards may be able help me with. I am planning to install red Hat 8.0 on some machines at school. Because kids are so fickle, I want really good fonts as they are unforgiving with poor rendering. So I have been testing RH 8.0 on a system. I followed instructions from one article which said to install extra fonts simply create a .fonts directory in your home folder and copy any new fonts there. This works well for KDE, GNOME, Galeon and Konqueror.

Now Opera uses these new fonts for the display fonts but the fonts used by the websites it displays, no matter what they are set to suck. In fact they are blurry and quite bad, and this is with anti-aliasing set. It does not matter if the fonts chosen are ones that in Galeon or Konqueror appear clear, in Opera all the fonts are blurry. Mozilla fonts are also bad. Is the Mozilla problem because XFT support has just been added to 1.2b and thus is not available in 1.01.

Thanks in advance
Paul
